According to the Chilean Law it is compulsory for all male Chilean citizens to register for military service. Chileans who are living in foreign countries must register with the consulate of his jurisdiction. Military registration has to be done when the applicant reach his 18 years of age.

If the person is more than 18 years old and is requesting military registration, he must ask for amnesty at the same time.

At the moment of registration the following is required:

• Chilean passport or Chilean ID Card (Cédula de Identidad Chilena)

• Complete first and last names of the interested person

• Date and place of birth

• Documentation indicating the studies that the person is currently doing

• Address in the United States of America and a document to verify the exact date since the interested person entered the USA

• The interested person must inform the Consulate if he has been registered in Chile before.

• The military registration costs US$ 1; the cost for amnesty is US$ 4; other actions related to the military service cost US$ 2.
