A document issued by an American authority will be valid in Chile, only
if it is legalized by a Consulate.
To legalize a document it is required:
-
The document must bear the signature of a Notary Public
-
The Secretary of State must certify the signature of the Notary Public
-
Once the documents bear both signatures, (Notary and Secretary of
State), they must be presented to the Consulate for their
legalization.
-
This procedure has a fee of US$ 12 for each signature of the Secretary
of State
-
Documents that are to be legalized can be sent by mail. The cost can
be paid by money order or a company check. A self-addressed stamped
envelope must be included to return the legalized documents.
-
When the duly legalized documents are received back, the interested
person must present them in Santiago, Chile for certification of
Consul's signature, in the Consular Department (section
“Legalization”) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chile, located at
Bandera Street #52, first floor, Santiago (hours: 09:00 AM – 02:00 PM,
phone (56 2) 679-4614, e-mail:
digecon20@minrel.cl).
